Incident at Baramati Airport

A training aircraft belonging to a private company made an emergency landing at Baramati Airport this afternoon. The incident occurred around 12:35 PM, just a short distance from the runway within the airport premises. Fortunately, both pilots on board escaped without any injuries, and the aircraft sustained only minor damage. It is noteworthy that a similar aviation accident in this city about seven months ago resulted in the death of Maharashtra's former Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar.


Details of the Aircraft Incident

Senior police officer Sandeep Singh Gill provided details about the incident, stating that the aircraft veered off the runway during a training exercise. The aircraft was piloted by Captain Chirag Shashikant Doifode and Cadet Abhijeet Jundre. At the time of the incident, both pilots were unharmed, and no injuries were reported.


How the Incident Occurred

According to the police, the aircraft initially approached the runway from Link Bravo and attempted to take off but aborted the attempt midway. It was then repositioned for another takeoff attempt from the opposite end, where the takeoff was again halted. During this process, due to excessive speed, the aircraft could not stop on the runway and veered off to the right, leaving the paved surface.


Previous Accident at Baramati Airport

Earlier this year, in January, a Learjet 45 crashed near Baramati Airport, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including Ajit Pawar. The ill-fated flight, operated by VSR Ventures, included the 66-year-old NCP leader, his security officer, an attendant, and two pilots, Captain Sumit Kapoor and First Officer Shambhavi Pathak. This tragic event occurred on January 28 during a second landing attempt.
