Resumption of Train Services
The restoration work was completed promptly and the track had been certified fit for train operations
Silchar, Oct 29: Train operations in the Lumding–Badarpur hill area have resumed following the successful restoration of the track after the derailment of the Silchar–Guwahati Express locomotive on Thursday morning.
According to Silchar Station Superintendent Bikram Nath, the affected train was returned to Silchar after the incident.
“The exact cause of the derailment is still under investigation by railway personnel on-site. While one train was affected, other services continued to operate normally, although several trains experienced delays due to the disruption,” he stated.
Nath confirmed that the restoration was completed swiftly, and the track has been deemed safe for train operations, allowing regular services to resume. However, he warned that train schedules might be subject to change.
The passenger coaches were moved back to Badarpur while senior railway officials oversaw the restoration efforts.
As per a previous announcement from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the front trolley of Train No. 15616 derailed at approximately 8:50 AM at kilometre 166/7 between Badarpur and Sukritipur stations within the Lumding division.
Fortunately, all passengers were reported safe during the incident.
The disruption resulted in the regulation of several trains in the area. The Guwahati–Silchar Express (15615) was held at Bihara, the Sealdah–Silchar Express (13175) at New Haflong, and the Sairang–Kolkata Express (13126) at Badarpur.

The Silchar–Guwahati Express (15616) was short-terminated at Badarpur, with its service cancelled between Badarpur and Guwahati.
Furthermore, the Guwahati–Silchar Express (15615), which was scheduled to depart on Thursday, was also cancelled, as reported by the NFR.
While the track has been cleared for operations, passengers are advised to remain vigilant regarding potential changes in train schedules.
