New Train Halts at Maibang Station


Haflong, March 8: A significant milestone has been achieved for the Dima Hasao hill district as the long-awaited request for train halts at Maibang railway station has been realized. Two prominent trains will now stop at this station.


The Kanchenjunga Express (13173/13174) and the Tejas Express (20501/20502) are the trains that will now make scheduled stops at Maibang. This development is anticipated to enhance regional connectivity and offer essential convenience to local commuters, traders, and students.


A ceremonial flag-off event took place at Maibang railway station on Saturday evening, celebrating the first halt of the Kanchenjunga Express. The event was graced by Cabinet Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa, and Mohet Hojai, the chairman of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, along with MAC Monjoy Langthasa and officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway.


Residents and local representatives expressed their gratitude for the new train halts, emphasizing that this decision will significantly improve travel options and bolster economic activities within the district.


Thanks were also directed towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their roles in making this initiative possible.


Minister Gorlosa, while speaking to the media, acknowledged the efforts of railway officials who played a crucial role in this achievement. She also mentioned that the construction of a foot overbridge at Maibang, which has been a pressing need for the community, is set to commence soon.
