Train Cancellations Disrupt Travel Amid Protests in New Delhi
Travel Chaos in New Delhi Due to Train Cancellations
New Delhi: A significant number of train services were suspended on Saturday due to extensive security measures in place for the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in the capital, leading to considerable inconvenience for travelers.
Passengers at various railway stations expressed frustration over the sudden cancellations, with many having to alter their travel arrangements unexpectedly.
One traveler shared, "Today, several trains have been cancelled, including those passing through Jaunpur, like the Tapti Ganga and Kashi Vishwanath Express. Now, I must travel to Lucknow and switch trains there. If I can't find a train, I'll have to take a bus. I was unaware of the cancellations beforehand."
Another individual, who arrived from Gujarat, recounted his struggles to reach Ghaziabad.
"I traveled from Gujarat intending to go to Ghaziabad, but my ticket was for New Delhi. I planned to disembark at Hazrat Nizamuddin and catch a local train to Ghaziabad. However, upon arrival at Nizamuddin, no trains were available. I had to take a rickshaw to New Delhi, but there were no trains from there either," he explained.
Conversely, some passengers reported a hassle-free journey, noting that trains were arriving punctually at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
One satisfied traveler remarked, "We encountered no issues. Our train journey was quite comfortable. There was some concern at night, but we were allowed entry easily in the morning, so everything went smoothly. Initially, people feared they might be stopped upon reaching Delhi, but that anxiety has dissipated."
In response to the protest, security measures have been significantly heightened throughout Delhi. Personnel from the Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been stationed at railway stations and other critical areas. Security patrols are ongoing, and drones are being utilized for surveillance.
Amid the protests, some citizens voiced their support for the Delhi Police.
An environmentalist and marathon runner, who chose to ride towards Jantar Mantar upon hearing about the protest, stated his intention to assist the Delhi Police in maintaining cleanliness in the capital, referring to the CJP protesters as "cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes."
The ongoing protest and the increased security presence have disrupted transportation services and prompted authorities to remain vigilant across the city.
