Tragic Wall Collapse Claims Lives of Two Young Boys in Delhi
Incident Overview
On Thursday evening, a tragic incident occurred in the Vasant Vihar area of southwest Delhi, where two young boys lost their lives after a wall collapsed due to heavy rainfall. Authorities reported that the intense downpour has led to multiple emergencies across the national capital, marking this as the third fatal incident linked to wall collapses in recent times.
Details of the Incident
Earlier in the day, a large tree was uprooted on Kalkaji Road, resulting in the death of a 50-year-old man and injuring his daughter, who sustained a pelvic fracture. The wall collapse happened around 4:40 p.m. near Hanuman Mandir in Basant Nagar, as confirmed by police.
Rescue Efforts
Upon receiving reports of the collapse, police and a disaster management team quickly arrived at the scene. The victims, a 10-year-old boy from Begusarai and a 9-year-old boy from Madhubani, were trapped under the debris. They were promptly rescued and transported to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
Investigation and Safety Measures
Authorities indicated that the boys were sitting on the stairs next to the wall when it fell. The wall, owned by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), is believed to have deteriorated due to the ongoing rain and waterlogging in the vicinity. The debris has been cleared to prevent further incidents, and a thorough inspection of nearby walls will be conducted to evaluate their safety.
Legal Proceedings
The police have stated that the bodies are being preserved for post-mortem examinations, and legal actions are underway.
