Fatal Incident at Level Crossing

Kolkata: A tragic accident occurred in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Friday morning, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including two schoolchildren. The incident took place when a train collided with a pool car transporting the students.

According to an official from Eastern Railway, the collision happened around 7 AM at a level crossing near Karna Subarna Railway Station.

In addition to the fatalities, three other individuals, including the driver of the pool car, sustained injuries during the incident.

The gateman responsible for the level crossing has been arrested on charges of negligence, as the gate was reportedly open at the time of the accident.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of each deceased victim.

The pool car was reportedly crossing the railway tracks when it was struck by the local train, which was en route to Katwa, approximately 48 kilometers away.

The injured parties were initially taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to Bardhaman Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

A team of ten investigators has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the accident, particularly focusing on why the level crossing gate was open as the train approached.
