Fatal Incident at Mirzapur Railway Station

A tragic accident occurred at the railway station in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of six women after they were struck by a train. This information was confirmed by a railway official.


Amit Singh, the public relations officer for the North Central Railway's Prayagraj division, reported that the incident took place around 9:30 AM when passengers disembarked from the Choupan Express train onto the tracks.


During this time, they were hit by the oncoming Netaji Express train.


Circumstances Surrounding the Accident

According to Singh, the victims had arrived in Mirzapur for the Kartik Purnima bathing festival. The railway stated that the Choupan Express had stopped at platform number four, yet passengers began to step onto the tracks despite the presence of a foot-over bridge.


A statement from the railway indicated that these individuals were crossing the tracks to reach the platform, leading to the unfortunate accident. Raghavendra Singh, an inspector with the Government Railway Police, confirmed the fatalities.


Identities of the Victims and Official Responses

The deceased have been identified as Savita (28), Sadhana (16), Shiv Kumari (12), Anju Devi (20), Sushila Devi (60), and Kalavati (50).


Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and instructed officials to expedite rescue and relief efforts at the scene. Both national and state disaster response teams have been ordered to the location.


Reactions from Officials

Union Minister and Mirzapur MP Anupriya Patel shared her sorrow over the incident in a message on social media. She stated, "I am deeply saddened by the heartbreaking event that occurred today at the Chunar railway station in the Mirzapur parliamentary constituency."


She further directed district officials to reach the site promptly, accelerate relief operations, and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. Patel extended her sympathies to the grieving families and wished for the swift recovery of the injured, praying for peace for the departed souls.
