Fatal Incident Involving Tesla's Automated Driving System
A tragic accident occurred in Katy, Texas, on Friday night, resulting in the death of a 76-year-old woman after a Tesla vehicle operating in self-drive mode crashed into her home. Reports indicate that Michael Butler, the driver of the Tesla Model 3, was utilizing an automated driving assistance feature at the time of the incident, as stated by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, according to a news report.
Details reveal that Butler lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and colliding with the house at a significant speed. The sheriff's office reported that the Tesla penetrated the brick structure, striking M. Avila, who was inside at the time.
Emergency responders airlifted Avila to a nearby hospital, but she was later pronounced dead. Investigators noted that Butler sustained injuries as well but was not under the influence of alcohol and was cooperating with law enforcement. A thorough investigation into the crash is currently underway.
