Tragic SUV Crash Claims Lives of Gangster's Son and Friend in Jhansi

Jhansi: Aban Ahmad, the 20-year-old son of the late gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, tragically lost his life alongside his friend in a horrific SUV accident in Jhansi district, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday, according to police reports.
The collision resulted in injuries to three other passengers, who are currently receiving medical care at Jhansi Medical College.
Senior Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy informed the media that authorities were alerted around 10:30 AM regarding the SUV's crash into a road divider after the driver reportedly lost control.
"Two individuals died in the incident, while three others sustained injuries and are being treated," he stated.
The deceased friend has been identified as 25-year-old Sonu, son of Raja.
Police revealed that Aban, a resident of Prayagraj, was en route to Jhansi to visit his two brothers, who are incarcerated in separate facilities there.
Murthy mentioned that initial investigations indicated the SUV was traveling at a high speed.
"One of the injured passengers reported that the vehicle was moving at an excessive speed before it crashed into the divider," he added.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Arvind Kumar confirmed that the accident occurred around 10:30 AM on the Kanpur-Jhansi Road in the Poonch area.
The vehicle involved was identified as a Hyundai Creta with the registration number UP 70 FW 2432.
The injured individuals have been named as Azam, 28, Mohammad Javed, 30, and Mohammad Umar, 24, all from Prayagraj.
Umar recounted that they were heading to a jail in Jhansi when the accident took place, stating, "The car was speeding, and the driver lost control."
When asked if Aban's family had been notified, SSP Murthy confirmed that all necessary protocols were being followed, with senior officers present at the scene.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the national highway as part of their investigation.
They are also exploring the possibility that the driver lost control due to a wild animal crossing the road, although no definitive conclusions have been drawn yet.
Aban is expected to be buried at Kasari Masari in Prayagraj, alongside other family members.
He was the youngest of Atiq Ahmad's five sons, slightly younger than his twin brother Ahjam. Currently, Umar and Ali are imprisoned in separate jails in Uttar Pradesh.
Another brother, Asad Ahmad, who was implicated in the Umesh Pal murder case, was killed in a police encounter near Jhansi in April 2023. Umesh Pal was a crucial witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, in which Atiq Ahmad was also implicated.
Atiq Ahmad's wife, Shaista Praveen, who is also accused in the high-profile murder case, remains at large, according to police.
On April 15, 2023, Atiq Ahmad, aged 60, and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at close range by three assailants posing as journalists while being escorted by police for a medical examination in Prayagraj. The incident, witnessed by television cameras, garnered widespread media attention.
