Patna, June 8: A tragic accident occurred in Bihar's Arwal district, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and leaving one person injured when an SUV lost control and plunged into the Son canal early Monday morning.
The victims were returning to Patna after visiting a local MLA when the incident took place around 12:15 a.m.
As reported by an official from the Arwal police, five residents from Amhara village in the Bihta police station area of Patna district were traveling in the SUV.
While heading back, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle at a sharp curve, causing it to veer off the road and into the canal.
The driver managed to escape by breaking a window and alerting nearby residents, who quickly rushed to the scene to assist in rescue efforts.
The deceased have been identified as Rishank Kumar, Aman Kumar, and Manoj Kumar, while the identity of one more victim remains unconfirmed.
The sole survivor, Rohit Kumar, was rescued by locals and the rescue team and has been taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment, where his condition is reported to be critical.
Upon receiving news of the accident, police, divers, and administrative officials arrived at the scene to initiate a rescue operation.
Efforts to recover the vehicle and the victims were complicated by darkness and the canal's depth.
The bodies have been retrieved and sent for post-mortem examination, while authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
This incident has brought sorrow to the community, with family members of the victims gathering at the accident site and the hospital.
All those who lost their lives were residents of Patna district.
