Tragic Suicide of Newlywed Bride in Hyderabad Linked to Dowry Harassment

Incident Reported in KPHB Colony

Hyderabad: A distressing case of dowry harassment has emerged from Hyderabad, where a young bride reportedly took her own life at her residence in KPHB Colony. The victim, identified as 19-year-old Maloth Poojitha, had recently married Jatoh Srinu, a sales executive at a jewelry store, on April 16, 2025.

Demands for Additional Dowry

According to Poojitha's grandmother, who works as a farmer, the family had already spent Rs 11 lakh on the wedding. Reports indicate that after the marriage, Poojitha's in-laws demanded an additional dowry of Rs 10 lakh. Her family claims that her mother-in-law and brother-in-law, along with her sister and brother-in-law, subjected her to constant harassment.

Continued Mistreatment Despite Pleas

Upon learning about the alleged mistreatment, Poojitha's grandmother, Bhadaramma, urged the in-laws to cease their demands and even promised to fulfill the additional dowry request after the next harvest. Nevertheless, the harassment persisted. Reports suggest that the couple had moved into their new home in KPHB Colony at the beginning of June. Tragically, on June 21, Srinu discovered Poojitha deceased upon returning from work. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
