Incident Overview

On Thursday, Kerala police reported the tragic suicide of a 40-year-old woman, identified as Rasina, who allegedly took her life after being publicly humiliated by a group of men in north Kerala. Her body was discovered at her residence in Pinarayi village, where authorities noted that she had been distressed following the confrontation regarding her male friend.

Arrests Made

In connection with this incident, law enforcement has apprehended three members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), a political group linked to the banned Islamist organization PFI. Reports indicate that Rasina and her friend were interrogated for an hour, during which her friend was also assaulted and held for an additional hour.

Further Developments

The accused individuals reportedly confiscated the male friend's mobile phone and summoned his family to the SDPI office. Following their arrest, the suspects have been placed in judicial custody.

Related Legal Proceedings

In a separate legal matter, the Supreme Court has transferred the investigation regarding the suspension of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) HM Jayaram, who is implicated in an abduction case, to the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID). The court has also overturned a previous directive from the Madras High Court concerning actions against ADGP Jayaram.

Court Directives

The Supreme Court has mandated that the case be reassigned to a different judge in the Madras High Court, distinct from the bench that issued prior orders against the senior police official. Earlier, the court instructed the Tamil Nadu government to respond to the suspension of ADGP Jayaram, expressing concern over the demoralizing nature of the officer's suspension amidst ongoing investigations.
