Incident Overview

In Saharsa, a 17-year-old girl tragically took her own life after being distressed by her boyfriend's profession and a video that surfaced. The deceased has been identified as Parvati Kumari. Reports indicate that she was in a romantic relationship with a local youth, but the revelation of her boyfriend being a 'lounda dancer' led to her emotional turmoil. The situation escalated dramatically when her family attempted to conduct a secret cremation, only to be interrupted by the police who seized the body.

Circumstances of the Incident

According to Parvati's brother, Ganesh Kumar, the incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon while the family was away. Parvati was alone at home, and when her mother and sister-in-law returned from the fields, they found her hanging from the kitchen balcony using her mother's saree. The family quickly brought her down and prepared for cremation without following legal procedures.

Relationship and Revelations

Family members disclosed that Parvati and her boyfriend, Pandav, had been in a relationship since January 2025, with both families agreeing to their marriage planned for August 2026. However, a few days prior, Parvati discovered a video of her boyfriend dressed as a girl while performing a 'lounda dance,' which deeply affected her and caused significant stress.

Police Investigation and Forensic Analysis

Upon learning of the incident, the police intervened just as the family was about to proceed with the cremation. They took possession of the body for a post-mortem examination. Following the autopsy on Sunday, the body was returned to the family. Given the seriousness of the case, a forensic science laboratory team was called to collect samples from the scene, including the noose and other evidence.

Ongoing Investigation

While the family attributes the suicide to relationship stress, the police are meticulously investigating all aspects of the case. The station chief clarified that the true cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is received, which will guide further legal actions. Notably, the victim's father, who works as a laborer in Mughal Sarai, was not present at home during the incident.
