Tragedy Strikes RCB Celebration

The historic title celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took a devastating turn on Wednesday when a stampede occurred during the highly anticipated victory parade in Bengaluru, resulting in multiple casualties.


Reports indicate that nearly 200,000 fans had gathered near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. As the crowd became uncontrollable, over 45 individuals sustained injuries, and Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that 11 people tragically lost their lives.


Virat Kohli, a key figure for RCB over the past decade and instrumental in their title run in 2025, expressed his sorrow regarding the incident.


Kohli's Heartfelt Reaction

"At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted," Kohli shared on Instagram around 10:45 PM, sharing RCB's official statement.


The RCB franchise also released a statement on social media addressing the tragedy that unfolded during the parade, stating:


"We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents reported regarding public gatherings across Bengaluru in anticipation of the team's arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us. RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extends our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Upon being informed of the situation, we promptly adjusted our program and adhered to the guidance of local authorities."


Government Response and Compensation

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a press conference shortly after the incident to confirm the extent of the tragedy.


"A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium," the CM stated.


He announced that the state government would provide ₹10 lakh in compensation to the families of those who lost their lives.


"The government will ensure free treatment for the injured," he added.


What was meant to be a historic moment for RCB has turned into a somber occasion, with the franchise and its captain now grieving alongside the fans they had finally brought a title to.
