Devastating Incident at Temple Festival
Panaji: A tragic stampede during a temple festival in North Goa has resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals, with many others injured, as reported by officials on Saturday.
The chaos unfolded at the Sree Lairai Devi temple located in Shirgao village during the early hours, according to a senior police official.
Numerous devotees from Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka had gathered for the festival, and authorities are currently investigating the precise cause of the stampede.
Officials from the Chief Minister's Office confirmed that six fatalities occurred, and numerous devotees suffered injuries.
State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane indicated that around 30 individuals were injured, with eight in critical condition; two of these patients were transferred to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim.
Eight of the injured were admitted to the district hospital, while ten others received treatment for minor injuries.
Rane assured that the health department has implemented immediate and thorough measures to address the situation.
He mentioned that they coordinated with the 108 ambulance service, dispatching five ambulances to the scene right after the incident, with three more stationed at the North Goa district hospital.
Additional medical personnel were brought in, and a specialized ICU equipped with ventilators was established to ensure comprehensive care.
Rane emphasized that all necessary arrangements have been made, and they are closely monitoring the condition of each patient.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also visited the injured at the North Goa district hospital.
