Tragic Stampede at RCB Victory Celebration Claims Lives in Bengaluru
Tragedy Strikes During RCB Celebration
A joyous celebration in Bengaluru turned into a disaster on Wednesday when a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium led to the deaths of ten individuals and left over 20 injured. What was meant to be a festive occasion marking the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's first IPL title became a scene of chaos and sorrow.
Crowd Surge Overwhelms Security Measures
A large number of fans gathered outside the stadium well in advance, eager to see their heroes with the IPL 2025 trophy. However, the overwhelming crowd created severe congestion at various entry points, resulting in a tragic stampede.
Authorities struggled to manage the situation, and tragically, six people lost their lives at the scene, while others succumbed to their injuries later. More than 20 individuals were transported to Bowring Hospital for medical attention.
RCB Honored at Vidhana Soudha
Earlier that day, the Karnataka government held a ceremony to honor the RCB team for their historic IPL victory after 18 years. The team, captained by Rajat Patidar, received accolades at the Vidhana Soudha, the state's legislative building, where Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar commended their achievement.
Celebration Halted Due to Safety Concerns
Despite police assurances urging fans to remain calm and avoid forceful entry, tensions escalated among the crowd. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed that the celebration had to be abruptly ended just ten minutes after it began due to the growing safety risks posed by the crowd.
