Fatal Incident at Mata Sheetla Temple
Nalanda: A tragic stampede at the Mata Sheetla Temple has resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, with another eight sustaining injuries, as confirmed by local authorities.
The chaos erupted during prayer services at the temple, located under the jurisdiction of the Deepnagar Police Station.
According to police reports, the situation escalated rapidly due to overwhelming crowds during the worship rituals.
"Preliminary information indicates that this unfortunate event has led to eight fatalities and eight injuries among the devotees," the police stated.
Emergency responders, including police and local residents, rushed to the scene to provide assistance and initiate rescue operations. Images from the site show a large number of devotees gathered in the temple area.
The Nalanda District Police promptly arrived to manage the relief efforts, officials reported.
Those injured were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention and are currently receiving care.
Animesh Kumar Parashar, the Commissioner of the Patna Division, along with other senior officials, has inspected the incident site.
Kundan Kumar, the District Magistrate of Nalanda, along with Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni and Deputy Development Commissioner Shubham Kumar, are overseeing the ongoing relief and rescue operations, ensuring all necessary measures are being taken.
Authorities have stated that the situation is now under control.
An investigation into the incident has been launched by the District Administration, with appropriate actions being taken.
CCTV footage from the temple is currently under review.
"A comprehensive forensic examination of the site is being conducted by a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory," the police added.
In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences and announced financial support of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
