Devastating Incident at Sheetla Mata Temple

In Patna, a tragic stampede at the Sheetla Mata Temple in Maghra village, Nalanda district, resulted in the deaths of eight individuals. In light of this disaster, local authorities have initiated strict measures against police officials for their alleged negligence.

Following an initial review that highlighted significant security failures, Bharat Soni, the Superintendent of Police in Nalanda, promptly suspended Rajmani, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Deepnagar Police Station.

Moreover, four additional police officers have been suspended due to their failure to perform their duties adequately.

Investigations have uncovered serious deficiencies in crowd management protocols.

The temple area was inadequately supervised, with only one watchman overseeing the situation, and senior officials were not alerted in a timely manner despite the increasing number of devotees.

These oversights contributed to a chaotic environment, ultimately leading to the stampede.

The incident took place on a Tuesday, a day known for attracting large crowds for special prayers.

As the number of devotees surged, panic ensued, resulting in the tragic stampede.

Eight women lost their lives, and many others sustained injuries, with several still receiving medical treatment.

The incident has incited widespread outrage among local residents and the victims' families, who have accused the authorities of negligence.

In response, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the incident, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and senior officials, including Patna range IG Jitendra Rana, who has visited the site.

The SIT is currently investigating the crowd control measures, the deployment of security personnel, and the communication breakdown within the police force.

The administration has pledged to take strict action against anyone found accountable for the tragedy.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed profound sorrow over the incident and announced financial compensation for the families of the deceased.

The state government will provide Rs 6 lakh to each family of the victims, with Rs 4 lakh sourced from the Disaster Relief Fund and Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Additionally, CM Nitish Kumar assured that all injured individuals are receiving appropriate medical care at the state's expense.
