The stabbing occurred amidst a local cricket match at Pedagadili, where three teams were engaged in a 20-match series. The victim, Dola Ajith Babu, was officiating alongside his friend Budumuri Chiranjeevi when a disagreement over a run-out escalated into a physical confrontation. Circle Inspector Malleswara Rao reported that Kanta Kishore, a spectator, became irate and verbally assaulted the umpires and players.
Despite efforts to calm the situation, tensions persisted on the field. After the initial dispute was settled, Kanta Kishore's agitation led to further conflict.
The Attack and Its Aftermath
Even after the run-out dispute was resolved, Kanta Kishore's anger did not subside. He ultimately stabbed Ajith Babu, injuring Chiranjeevi and others who attempted to intervene. Reports indicate that Kishore, who was intoxicated, confronted the group at Pedagadili junction, leading to a violent altercation.
During the scuffle, Kishore pulled out a knife, stabbing Ajith in the chest and injuring Chiranjeevi. Ajith was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later referred to Apollo Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Kanta Kishore has since fled the scene, and police are actively pursuing him. A murder case has been filed against him, along with charges for the injuries inflicted on others.
