Ghaziabad Student Murder Shocks Community
A shocking incident in the Khoda Colony area of Ghaziabad has left the community in disbelief after a 17-year-old student was fatally stabbed. The victim, identified as Surya Pratap, was a Class 11 student at a private school in Khoda and resided in Navneet Vihar. He succumbed to his injuries on Friday afternoon after being attacked on Thursday evening. Reports indicate that the police have apprehended three suspects, while two others are being interrogated. Among those arrested, two are reportedly minors. The main suspect, Asad, along with his family, is currently on the run, prompting local police to launch multiple teams to track them down.
The case has also sparked political controversy, with Hindu organizations urging the Uttar Pradesh police to carry out an encounter of the accused Asad and demolish his residence.
Details of the Attack Emerge
According to a complaint filed by the victim's elder brother, Yash, the police registered a case following the incident. Yash stated that around 3:30 PM on Thursday, Asad launched a deadly attack on his brother near Sharma Dairy. At the time, Surya Pratap was accompanied by his friends, Ayush and Vicky. It is alleged that Asad confronted Surya Pratap, leading to a verbal altercation, after which he stabbed Surya multiple times in the abdomen. The critically injured teenager was first taken to a private hospital and later transferred to a larger facility in Noida, where he ultimately passed away.
Witness Accounts and Previous Conflicts
Friends who witnessed the incident reported that they had been invited to the suspect's home for Bakrid celebrations. During their visit, Asad asked Surya if he had ever seen a goat being sacrificed. When Surya denied, Asad insisted on showing him, leading to a heated exchange. When Surya expressed his desire to leave, the argument escalated, and Asad attacked him with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Initial police investigations revealed that Surya Pratap and Asad had a previous altercation about eight months ago, which had been resolved. Authorities are now examining this past conflict as part of their investigation.
Police Investigation and Political Reactions
Dhaval Jaiswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Trans Hindon and Nagar areas, stated that the motive behind the murder remains unclear. He mentioned that footage from nearby surveillance cameras is being reviewed. Initially, the police registered a case under the Indian Penal Code for attempted murder and public disturbance, but this was upgraded to murder following the victim's death. To maintain law and order, additional police forces have been deployed in the Khoda area, with assurances that every aspect of the case is being thoroughly investigated.
The incident has also drawn political attention, with Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya asserting that no suspect will be spared. The victim's family is demanding justice, expressing a desire for retribution. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remarked that violence may be necessary if faced with a threat. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has also expressed concern, labeling the incident as a result of a toxic mindset.
