Tragic Stabbing in Southall: 20-Year-Old Charged with Murder of Fellow Indian National
Incident Overview
London: A 20-year-old Indian man has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of another Indian national, aged 26, in Southall, a suburb in west London, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Navjot Singh faces charges of murder, intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon following his arrest last week on suspicion of killing Gurbhej Singh.
The incident occurred in the early hours of June 10, when Gurbhej Singh was attacked on North Road, close to the intersection with Dormers Wells Lane. Another man in his 30s was also injured during the incident and has since been treated and released from the hospital.
Emergency services, including paramedics, responded to the scene after receiving a call from the London Ambulance Service. Despite the medical team's efforts, Gurbhej Singh succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Navjot Singh appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday and has been remanded in custody, with a scheduled appearance at the Old Bailey in London on Monday.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is overseeing the investigation, stated that extensive inquiries have been conducted since Gurbhej's death, leading to the arrest of a suspect.
She acknowledged the community's concerns regarding this tragic event and expressed gratitude for their patience during the investigation. Foxwell also thanked those who provided CCTV footage and other information that aided in reconstructing the events of that night, extending her condolences to Gurbhej's family.
The victim's family is currently receiving support from specialized officers, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police.
Previously, seven men aged between their early 20s and late 30s were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. Six of them have been released without further action, while one remains on police bail as investigations continue.
