A heartbreaking incident occurred on Sunday morning in Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, where a soil mound collapsed on women who were digging for soil to paint their homes. This unfortunate event resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a mother and daughter, while two others sustained serious injuries.
Details of the Incident
The tragedy took place in Chakthama village, located in the Manjhanpur tehsil, where several women were excavating soil near a pond. Eyewitnesses reported that the women had been working for a considerable time when suddenly a large mound of soil gave way, burying everyone present. The collapse happened so swiftly that there was no time for anyone to react.
Rescue Efforts and Casualties
Following the incident, panic ensued among the villagers. Local residents rushed to the scene to initiate rescue operations. After considerable effort, they managed to extricate the trapped individuals and promptly transported them to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, upon arrival, doctors declared three women, identified as Uttara Devi, Geeta Devi, and Bitti, dead.
The other injured individuals were admitted to the hospital in critical condition, with Jitiya and Amit being named among them. Medical professionals reported that all injured persons received immediate care, and their conditions are now stable. The CMS of the medical college indicated that the injured might be discharged soon after treatment.
Official Response and Investigation
A police team arrived at the scene shortly after being informed. The SDM of Manjhanpur, Akash Singh, confirmed that the collapse of the soil mound led to the tragic incident, resulting in three fatalities. He stated that the administrative team is on-site, ensuring all necessary actions are being taken. All injured individuals were safely evacuated and sent to the medical college for treatment.
The police have taken possession of the deceased's bodies for post-mortem examinations and have initiated an investigation into the incident. The village is currently in mourning, with relatives and acquaintances arriving as news of the tragedy spreads.
