Overview of the Incident

In Shreveport, Louisiana, law enforcement is currently investigating a tragic series of shootings that occurred early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of eight children and injuries to others. The police are working to identify the gunman, who is believed to have acted alone. Following a police chase that ended in Bossier Parish, the suspect, an adult male, was killed. The pursuit began after he reportedly carjacked a vehicle while fleeing the initial shooting scene.

According to police spokesperson Chris Bordelon, investigators are confident that the suspect was the sole shooter involved in the incidents. The first reports of gunfire were received shortly after 6:00 AM in the 300 block of West 79th Street, prompting an extensive investigation across multiple locations. Bordelon noted, “This is a rather extensive crime scene spanning between two residences here,” and mentioned another location on Harrison Street that is also part of the investigation.

While online reports have named the suspect as Shamar Elkins, this has not been officially confirmed by authorities. In total, ten individuals were shot, with eight children, aged between one and fourteen, losing their lives. Some victims are believed to be related to the suspect. Bordelon remarked, “This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen.” Following the shootings, the suspect fled and committed a carjacking near the intersection of West 79th Street and Lynnwood Avenue, leading to the police pursuit.
