Guwahati, Sept 3: A tragic shooting at a police outpost in Assam's Kamrup district resulted in the deaths of two police officers and left two others injured late Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at the Gamerimura Police Outpost, which falls under the Boko Police Station's jurisdiction.
The victims have been identified as Fazrul Ali and Indrajit Bora, who was the officer-in-charge at the outpost.
Two additional officers were also shot and have been transported for medical care, although their current condition is unknown.
Reports indicate that the shooting was allegedly perpetrated by a fellow officer, Chiranjeev Choudhury, using an AK-47 rifle.
Authorities have yet to reveal the reasons behind the shooting, and it remains uncertain if there was any prior confrontation or other events that led to this tragic occurrence.
An extensive investigation is underway to clarify the events leading up to the shooting and the circumstances surrounding the use of the service weapon.
This incident follows a similar occurrence just a month prior, where a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer opened fire on colleagues at a camp in Nagaon district before taking his own life.
On August 4, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ballani Premabaram reportedly shot at three personnel, resulting in two fatalities and one injury, before committing suicide.
