Tragic School Shooting in Thailand Claims Seven Lives

Bangkok, Aug 7: A tragic shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district of Thailand's Nonthaburi city resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including the shooter, and left 15 others injured, according to local news reports.

The fatalities included three students, three teachers, and the suspected gunman. The injured were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention, as reported by the Bangkok Post.

The incident unfolded around 10 a.m. local time when volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation received alerts about gunfire within the school premises. A student present during the chaos described the assailant, who was clad in a purple physical education uniform, firing multiple rounds.

The shooter, identified as a 9th-grade student armed with a 9mm handgun, had barricaded himself on the third floor of the school's pink building. Authorities later discovered him deceased, apparently from self-inflicted wounds, as per police reports.

In the aftermath of the shooting, emergency services arrived to evacuate students and staff from the area. Forensic teams have commenced investigations at the scene, urging the public to refrain from livestreaming the event and to avoid the vicinity to ensure the integrity of the ongoing operations. Investigators are currently working to determine the motive behind the shooting and to piece together the events that transpired.

Earlier, on July 22, a separate attack in Narathiwat province resulted in the deaths of five soldiers and injuries to six civilians when unidentified assailants opened fire and detonated a bomb at a checkpoint, as reported by Xinhua News Agency. Six attackers in a pickup truck executed the assault before fleeing the scene, prompting security forces to initiate a search for the perpetrators.
