Tragic School Collapse in Rajasthan Claims Lives of Four Children
Devastating Incident in Jhalawar
On July 25, a tragic incident unfolded in Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, where a government school building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of at least four children. Numerous others are feared to be trapped beneath the rubble, with ten students currently hospitalized.
The calamity struck in Piplodi village within the Manoharthana region, where the roof of the school gave way, burying many students under the debris.
Madan Dilawar, the State Education Minister, expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and has mandated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
"I have instructed that the injured receive the best medical care possible. Additionally, I am initiating an inquiry to determine the cause of this unfortunate event. District officials are already on-site," he stated.
According to Jhalawar Superintendent of Police, Amit Kumar, ten children have been sent to Jhalawar for treatment, with three to four in critical condition.
The incident occurred at the Government Higher Primary School, which was housed in an old and deteriorating building. The collapse happened during school hours, leading to chaos and panic.
Eyewitnesses reported that over 50 students were in class when the roof collapsed, likely due to the heavy rainfall that had persisted for several days. The collapse was followed by screams and confusion as dust and debris filled the area.
Villagers and school staff quickly initiated rescue operations, working to clear the debris and free the trapped children.
Injured students were transported to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Manoharthana using private vehicles, with many reported to be in serious condition.
Emergency responders, including police and administrative officials, arrived promptly at the scene.
Rescue efforts were ongoing, utilizing JCB machines and teams from the disaster response force as this report was being prepared.
Authorities are diligently working to clear the remaining rubble and locate all individuals who may still be trapped.
Emergency medical teams have been deployed at the site and local hospitals to provide immediate care, as directed by officials. The District Collector and senior officials have ensured that hospitals are equipped to offer the best medical attention to the injured.
