Accident Overview


Bhanjanagar/Belaguntha: A devastating accident occurred on Tuesday when a Tata Ace van overturned near Kulangi village along the Sorada-Bhanjanagar main road in Ganjam district, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including a minor, and injuring 15 others.


The victims have been identified as 15-year-old Badal Gouda from Baghalingi village and 27-year-old Chandrama Gouda from Kesharpatna village.


Reports indicate that the vehicle was transporting over 17 family members from Baghalingi village, who were en route to the Sanaborasingi Thakurani temple to participate in a ritual feast as part of a religious vow. The incident took place around 10 AM when the speeding vehicle lost control and collided with a culvert near Kulangi, leading to its overturning.


Emergency responders, including police and local residents, quickly arrived at the scene. RTO Shubhendu Ranjan Ray coordinated with ambulances to ensure the injured were taken to Bhanjanagar hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced Badal and Chandrama dead upon arrival.


Four individuals with severe injuries were transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for specialized treatment, while others received care at Bhanjanagar and nearby health facilities. Sub-Collector Uma Shankar Behera visited the hospital to ensure that all victims received adequate medical support. Later, Sorada MLA Nilamani Bisoi also visited the hospital to check on the injured and extend assistance to the affected families.
