Jorhat, April 17: The joyous atmosphere of Bohag Bihu was marred by tragedy in Assam's Jorhat district, where two separate road accidents resulted in two fatalities and left four individuals injured on Friday.

The first incident took place on a national highway near the North East Science and Technology Institute in West Jorhat. Reports indicate that a speeding Bolero pick-up collided with the rear of a Maxxim vehicle, causing it to veer off and crash into the roadside railing.

The driver of the Maxxim, identified as Dhan Das from Panichuk in Jorhat, tragically lost his life at the scene. He had taken the vehicle out during the Bihu festivities.

Four passengers in the Maxxim sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care.

The driver of the Bolero pick-up fled the accident scene. Authorities have arrived to investigate and are working to locate the vehicle and its driver.

In a separate incident in Bandarcholia, Titabar, another man lost his life in a road accident. The victim, Jatin Barpatra Gohain, was a resident of Bandarcholia Botiya.

Eyewitnesses reported that Gohain was riding his motorcycle towards Titabar when it ran out of fuel. While attempting to park, he was struck by a speeding Bolero pick-up.

One local witness recounted, “We were heading to Titabar when the Bolero hit us while we were on the bike.”

Gohain succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved has been detained by Titabar police.

Authorities are conducting separate investigations into both accidents, focusing on potential negligence and speeding as factors contributing to these tragic events.
