Guwahati, June 19: A tragic road accident near Khandikar on the Rangia–Nagrijuli Road resulted in the deaths of three young men from the same family in Tamulpur district.

The victims have been identified as Juber Hussain (14), Majrul Sultan (18), and Sultan Ali (21), all hailing from Chirakhundi village in the Tamulpur area.

Juber and Majrul were siblings, while Sultan Ali was their cousin, being the son of their paternal aunt.

According to local police, the incident took place around 10 PM on Thursday near the Khandikar railway line, under the jurisdiction of Kaurbaha Police Patrol Post.

As per Tamulpur Superintendent of Police Suman Chakraborty, the motorcycle with registration number AS01GU3702 was heading towards Rangia when it collided head-on with a Bolero pickup van (AS01RC1884) traveling in the opposite direction towards Nagrijuli.

The force of the collision caused the motorcycle's rider and two passengers to be thrown onto the road, sustaining severe injuries.

Emergency services quickly transported the injured individuals to Kaurbaha BPCH and Swasti Hospital, but unfortunately, all three were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Family members reported that the cousins were returning home from a wedding in Yusuf Nagar, Rangia, just a short distance from their residence when the accident occurred.

The Bolero pickup was operated by Ashan Ali (25) from Chirang district. Following the incident, both the driver and his assistant, Dipen Medhi (24) from Baksa district, were taken into custody.

"Legal proceedings are underway against the driver and helper of the Bolero pickup van," stated the SP.

The bodies were retrieved during the night and subsequently sent to Tamulpur for post-mortem examinations.

In a separate incident in Hojai district, a scooter rider named Bhupal Chakraborty from Lumding lost his life after being struck by a Quizar vehicle near Dangoriya Mandir on National Highway 27.

An eyewitness reported that the collision occurred at a speed of approximately 70-80 km/h. Police have seized the vehicle involved, detained the driver, and initiated an investigation.

Additionally, in Guwahati, a late-night incident on the Ganeshguri flyover resulted in injuries to two workers after a speeding vehicle collided with three parked vehicles and workers engaged in beautification efforts.

One of the injured workers was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.

The vehicle, registered as AS12AB 7400, was confiscated by Dispur Traffic Police, and the driver was detained.
