Fatal Collision in Kaushambi District
Kaushambi (Uttar Pradesh): Authorities have reported that the death toll from a tragic road accident in Kaushambi district has reached 10. This incident occurred on Friday evening when a pickup truck, filled with devotees, collided with a stationary trailer truck near a petrol station in the Saini area.
The victims were returning to Fatehpur after attending a child's tonsure ceremony in Prayagraj and visiting the Maa Sheetla shrine at Kada Dham, according to officials.
Police confirmed that five women and three children died instantly, while several others sustained serious injuries.
Late Friday night, two additional women succumbed to their injuries at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj, bringing the total fatalities to 10, as stated by Circle Officer Sirathu, Santosh Kumar.
The deceased have been identified as Maiki (55) and Sindhi (58).
The other victims included Darshniya (68), Sukhrania (65), Maiki (56), Soni alias Sundari (50), Rajkumari (35), Gudia (27), Kallo (22), Dhruv (7), Anuj (8), and Mayank (10), all hailing from Jafarganj in Fatehpur.
Approximately 28 individuals were traveling in the pickup, primarily family members or relatives. Following the accident, over two dozen injured were transported to nearby hospitals, with many referred to Prayagraj for specialized care. Currently, 24 individuals are receiving treatment, as reported by police.
All deceased bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations, which were conducted overnight, and the remains have been dispatched to their home village in Fatehpur district, according to the officer.
Police are closely monitoring the situation in the village, anticipating that the arrival of the bodies will heighten the atmosphere of mourning.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos, with injured passengers lying on the highway and calling for assistance, prompting locals to alert authorities and aid in rescue operations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has acknowledged the incident, offering condolences to the grieving families and announcing compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
He has also instructed officials to ensure that all injured receive appropriate medical care.
Authorities have filed an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated a search for the driver of the trailer truck, who is currently at large.
