Fatal Incident in Dholpur District

A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday in Dholpur district, Rajasthan, as heavy rainfall continued. An eco-van filled with passengers overturned into a waterlogged pit near Phoolpur village in the Mania police jurisdiction. The incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including three children and a woman, while approximately eight others sustained injuries.

Pilgrims on Their Way to a Temple

Reports indicate that around a dozen people were traveling in the eco-van, primarily from Dholpur and nearby areas in Madhya Pradesh, heading to visit the shrine of Jaharveer Baba near Phoolpur.

Due to persistent rain, the road was inundated, making it difficult to distinguish between the road and the adjacent water-filled pit. During this time, the driver lost control, causing the van to plunge into the deep water-filled ditch.

Panic Erupts as the Van Capsizes

Following the accident, chaos ensued at the scene. Local villagers rushed to assist the passengers trapped inside the van, quickly entering the water to initiate a rescue operation.

The villagers managed to rescue eight individuals from the submerged vehicle. The injured were then transported to a hospital in Mania for treatment.

Tragic Loss of a Family

Among the deceased were three members of the same family. Reports confirm that the victims included 32-year-old Sapna, her one-year-old son Harshit, and her three-year-old daughter Prachi. Additionally, a child from Morena district in Madhya Pradesh also lost their life.

The news of a mother and her two children perishing in the accident has devastated their relatives, casting a pall of grief over the community.

Injured Individuals Receiving Medical Care

The injured were initially taken to the hospital in Mania. After receiving first aid, some were referred to Dholpur District Hospital for more advanced treatment. While reports vary slightly regarding the number of injured, it is confirmed that around eight individuals were hurt.

Among the injured were women and children, and a medical team is currently providing care.

Waterlogged Roads Pose Significant Risks

Initial investigations reveal that the continuous rainfall led to significant water accumulation on the road near Phoolpur village. The water obscured the boundary between the road and the adjacent pit.

Local sources indicate that the overflow from the pit reached the roadway, preventing the driver from accurately assessing the road conditions, ultimately leading the vehicle into the pit. The police are currently investigating the entire incident.

Authorities Respond to the Scene

Upon learning of the accident, police and administrative officials arrived at the site. The district collector and police superintendent assessed the situation and gathered information on the rescue efforts.

Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident and the primary reasons for the vehicle's plunge into the pit.

Increased Danger from Rain-Induced Flooding

Continuous rainfall in Dholpur has resulted in flooding in several areas. The water accumulation on roads poses a significant risk to drivers. This incident highlights the challenges of identifying road conditions when they are obscured by water during rainy weather.

While this tragic accident claimed four lives, the prompt actions of local villagers saved many others. Currently, the injured are receiving treatment, and police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
