Mortal Remains of Pilgrims Returned to India


Chennai: The remains of seven Tamil Nadu pilgrims who tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Nepal have been transported to New Delhi, as confirmed by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan, on Wednesday.


Speaking to reporters at Chennai International Airport, Murugan stated that the bodies arrived in the capital on Wednesday, and plans are in place to send them back to their hometowns in Tamil Nadu for final ceremonies.


The victims were part of a pilgrimage group traveling in Nepal when the unfortunate incident occurred on March 14.


Among the deceased, four hailed from Pollachi in the Coimbatore district, while the other three were from Chennai.


Murugan highlighted that the Indian Embassy in Nepal responded swiftly after the accident, managing rescue efforts and ensuring that the injured received immediate medical attention.


He remarked, “The Embassy provided all necessary support and facilitated the return of the bodies to India.”


Regarding the injured, the Minister reported that four individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment. Additionally, three others with minor injuries are expected to be discharged from a Kathmandu hospital later today.


The Union Minister mentioned that he reached out to Indian Embassy officials promptly after learning about the incident. “I contacted the Embassy authorities immediately. They informed me that steps were being taken to transport the bodies to Delhi and assist those affected,” Murugan stated.


Efforts are now underway to ensure the smooth transfer of the remains from Delhi to Pollachi and Chennai.


Local authorities in Tamil Nadu are anticipated to assist the grieving families with necessary arrangements upon the bodies' arrival.


This tragic event has left families in Pollachi and Chennai heartbroken, as they await the return of their loved ones.


The government has pledged to provide all possible support to the families during this challenging time.
