Fatal Incident on National Highway 27


Khetri, Aug 13: A tragic road accident occurred on National Highway 27 in Khetri on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of a retired educator and his wife, while their teenage daughter sustained severe injuries.


According to police reports, the incident took place when a hatchback (registration number AS 01 ET 2351) traveling from Guwahati to Jagiroad lost control and collided with a tree situated on the road divider.


The collision was so intense that both the driver, Gajendra Mohan Dev Sharma, a former vice-principal of Raha College, and his wife, Archana Devi, who was in the front passenger seat, died at the scene.


Their daughter, Kumali Devi, who was seated in the back, suffered critical injuries and was quickly rescued by local traffic police, who arrived promptly and transported her to the hospital.


Witnesses described the aftermath as harrowing, with the vehicle severely damaged and rescue operations complicated by the crash's severity.


A police spokesperson expressed sorrow over the incident, stating, "This is a very tragic accident. It appears that the vehicle may have been speeding, leading to the driver losing control and crashing into a tree. We are currently investigating the circumstances and will determine if road conditions contributed to the accident, notifying the relevant authorities for necessary measures."
