Tragic Road Accident in Chamba Claims Five Lives, Including Infant

A severe road accident near Lahad, Bani Khet, has tragically claimed the lives of five individuals, including a three-month-old infant. The incident occurred early in the morning when a vehicle fell off a hillside. Local authorities and residents rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, all passengers were found deceased. The victims have been identified, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the accident. This incident has raised concerns about road safety in the mountainous regions of Chamba, prompting calls for improved safety measures to prevent future tragedies.

Fatal Accident Near Lahad, Bani Khet

A tragic road incident unfolded early this morning close to Lahad, Bani Khet, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including a three-month-old baby. The police were alerted around 6:45 AM regarding a vehicle that had veered off the hillside.


Upon arrival, ASI Yashpal (In‑charge, Bani Khet Police Post) and his team, including the SHO, discovered a white Alto car (HP 48 A 8534) that had fallen approximately 400 meters down the slope. Local residents were already on the scene, aiding in the rescue efforts.


Despite prompt action, all occupants were found deceased at the location. The deceased have been identified as follows:



  • Vachan Singh (60), son of Narayan Singh, from village Gehra, Chamba

  • Rimpun Singh (30), son of Vachan Singh

  • Rimpi Devi (26), wife of Rimpun Singh

  • Kirti (23), daughter of Kesar Singh

  • Infant (3 months)


The bodies were recovered with assistance from the fire brigade, police, and local villagers, and were taken to CHC Dalhousie Hospital for post-mortem examinations.


Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway, led by ASI Yashpal. This heartbreaking event has brought sorrow to the community, once again underscoring the hazards associated with mountain roads in the Chamba district.


Officials are expected to look into the circumstances surrounding the accident, while residents are calling for enhanced road safety measures to avert such tragic incidents in the future.
