Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives of Atique Ahmed's Son and Companion
Fatal Incident on Jhansi-Kanpur Highway
A tragic road accident occurred on Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of deceased mafia figure and former MP Atique Ahmed, along with another individual. The incident took place in the Poonch police station area along the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway. Three other passengers in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment, as reported by the police.
Following the accident, the bodies of Aban Ahmed and his companion were transported by family members to Prayagraj late at night, along with the injured individuals.
Family Arrives for Post-Mortem
Upon receiving news of the accident, family members of the injured, including Atique's son Azaam, arrived in Jhansi from Prayagraj later that evening. During the post-mortem conducted by a panel of doctors, the family expressed their desire to take the bodies of the deceased and the three injured youths back to Prayagraj for further treatment.
According to family members, they preferred to continue the medical care for the injured in Prayagraj.
Details of the Accident
During the post-mortem at the medical college late Thursday night, Ramveer Singh, the area officer present, stated that the relatives of the three injured individuals left for Prayagraj around 9:30 PM in an ambulance for better medical care. He also mentioned that around midnight, the bodies of Aban and his friend Sonu were taken by their family for cremation in Prayagraj.
Arvind Kumar, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), revealed that Aban Ahmed was en route to visit his brothers incarcerated in Jhansi Jail when their SUV lost control and collided with a divider on the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway.
Investigation Underway
Senior Superintendent of Police BBGT Murthy informed reporters that the police received information about the accident at approximately 10:30 AM. He confirmed that both Aban Ahmed (21) and his friend Sonu (25) lost their lives in the crash. The injured passengers, Azaam, Mohammad Javed, and Umar, were admitted to Jhansi Medical College.
Initial investigations indicated that the vehicle was traveling at a high speed. One of the injured passengers reported that the car was speeding and became uncontrollable before hitting the divider.
Post-Mortem and Funeral Arrangements
Authorities stated that the bodies of Aban Ahmed and Sonu were taken to Jhansi Medical College, where a panel of three doctors conducted the post-mortem. Umar, one of Aban's injured friends, shared with reporters that they were heading to visit Aban's brother in Jhansi Jail when the accident occurred.
Police officials mentioned that they would review CCTV footage from the highway to determine the cause of the accident. It is believed that Aban's body will be laid to rest at the Kasari Masari cemetery in Prayagraj, where other family members are also buried.
Family Background
Aban Ahmed was the youngest of Atique Ahmed's five sons. Two of his brothers, Umar and Ali, are currently imprisoned in different jails across Uttar Pradesh. Another brother, Asad, was killed in an encounter with police near Jhansi in April 2023. Asad was wanted in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder case of BSP legislator Raju Pal.
Atique Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were murdered on April 15, 2023, by three assailants posing as journalists while the police were transporting them for a medical examination at a hospital in Prayagraj.
