Tragic Road Accident Claims Eight Lives in Maharashtra's Ambenali Ghat
Fatal Incident in Ambenali Ghat
A devastating road accident occurred at the perilous Ambenali Ghat, located on the border of Raigad and Satara districts in Maharashtra. A Scorpio SUV lost control and plunged into a gorge approximately 500 to 700 feet deep. Tragically, all eight individuals inside the vehicle died at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were returning to Satara after a trip to Dapoli in the Konkan region. Upon receiving news of the accident, local authorities, police, and rescue teams from Mahabaleshwar rushed to the site.
Challenges Faced During Rescue Operations
A senior police official stated that the depth of the gorge and the darkness of the night posed significant challenges for the rescue efforts. After strenuous efforts during the night, two bodies were recovered. However, with the dawn, the rescue operation intensified, and efforts to retrieve the remaining bodies continued at a rapid pace. The ill-fated Scorpio is reported to have originated from Asgaon village in Satara district.

Frequent Accidents at Ambenali Ghat
It is noteworthy that Ambenali Ghat is notorious for frequent road accidents, making it a dangerous stretch between Raigad and Satara districts. Speculations suggest that the victims may have been visiting the Konkan or Mahabaleshwar. Local authorities, trackers, and rescue teams have arrived at the scene, but the steep gorge and challenging terrain have complicated the rescue operations. The search for bodies faced numerous difficulties in the darkness of the night. However, with the arrival of daylight, there is hope for a more efficient rescue operation.
