Between January and June of this year, a staggering total of 257 farmers took their own lives in the Amravati division of western Vidarbha, with Yavatmal district recording the highest number of 178 suicides. This information was shared by an official on Thursday.


The data comes from a report released by the Amravati divisional commissioner on July 4. According to the report, the suicide figures include 101 farmers from Amravati district, 90 from Akola, 178 from Yavatmal, 91 from Buldhana, and 67 from Washim.
