Bhopal/Ujjain, April 3: In a tragic turn of events, the remains of Gurkirat Singh Manocha, a bright young student from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, were returned home on Friday after he was brutally murdered in Canada last month.

Gurkirat, the younger son of local entrepreneur Gurjeet Singh Manocha, was studying for a Post-Degree Diploma in Business Management at Northern Lights College located in Fort St. John, British Columbia. He was attacked on March 14 by a group of individuals near Charlie Lake, resulting in injuries that ultimately led to his death.

This shocking event has cast a shadow of sorrow over the Sikh community in Madhya Pradesh and beyond. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed his heartfelt condolences on social media, affirming that the state government stands united with its citizens during both joyous and sorrowful times.

On his social media account, the Chief Minister prayed for Gurkirat's soul to rest in peace and for his family to find strength in their grief.

The state government swiftly sought assistance from the central authorities to facilitate the repatriation of the body.

On Tuesday, the Chief Minister, along with Ujjain MP Anil Firojiya, visited the bereaved family at their home in Parshwanath City on Dewas Road.

The leaders paid their respects by laying flowers before Gurkirat’s photograph and offered comfort to the grieving family members.

In a previous meeting, Gurkirat’s father, Gurjeet Singh Manocha, had formally requested the Chief Minister to honor the family's wishes. They expressed a desire to conduct the final rites and cremation in Canada, where the tragedy occurred, and later return the ashes to Ujjain for the concluding ceremonies if Gurkirat's body could not be brought back. To facilitate this, they urgently requested the state government to arrange visas for Gurkirat’s elder brother, Prabhkirat Singh, and his cousin, Saheb Singh. Additionally, they sought financial aid to cover travel expenses, hospital bills incurred in Canada, and other related costs.

CM Mohan Yadav and MP Anil Firojiya listened attentively and assured the family of the state government's unwavering support. They committed to coordinating with the relevant central authorities to expedite the visa process and explore all possible options to provide the necessary financial assistance to repatriate Gurkirat’s remains to Ujjain.
