On Thursday morning, a massive rock collapsed at a stone quarry in Madapattana, resulting in the deaths of at least seven laborers from Bihar, who were trapped under the debris. Several other workers sustained serious injuries. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and indicated that strict action would be taken against the quarry owners.
Details of the Accident
According to police reports, the accident took place in the early hours of Thursday when workers from the Kaveri Company were engaged in their tasks at the quarry. All the deceased were daily wage laborers working at the stone crushing site, and they were killed instantly when the rock fell on them.
How Did the Accident Occur?
Authorities revealed that the incident happened during excavation work at the quarry. Preliminary investigations suggest that while the workers were operating, a large rock broke loose and fell onto them. At the time of the accident, approximately 15 to 20 workers were present at the site. Initial reports indicate that a Hitachi machine was clearing space for a new crusher unit about 100 feet above the workers when the rock rolled down.
Injuries and Rescue Operations
Injured workers were transported to a private hospital for treatment. The exact number of injured individuals is still being confirmed, but early reports indicate that several workers were hurt. Following the accident, rescue teams and police arrived at the scene to initiate recovery efforts. The area was cordoned off, and officials began removing debris to check for any additional workers who might be trapped.

He stated, "The collapse of the wall at the crusher site in Bengaluru South Taluk has resulted in the death of seven workers, which deeply saddens me. I pray for the peace of the departed souls and strength for their families to endure this grief, and I wish for the injured to recover swiftly."
In a post on social media, the Chief Minister emphasized that ensuring the safety of workers at quarries is the responsibility of the owners, and he assured that the government would take appropriate action against those violating safety regulations.
