Fatal Accident on Yamuna Expressway
Mathura: A devastating vehicle collision on the Yamuna Expressway resulted in the deaths of thirteen individuals and left thirty-five others injured due to a fire that erupted early Tuesday morning, according to police reports.
The accident, which occurred around 4:30 AM, involved at least seven buses and three smaller vehicles colliding in thick fog.
This tragic event took place within the jurisdiction of the Baldev Police Station.
Mathura's Senior Superintendent of Police, Shlok Kumar, stated, "The collisions were caused by poor visibility on the Agra-to-Noida stretch of the expressway, leading to several vehicles catching fire. All injured parties have been transported to medical facilities."
Among the deceased, two have been identified: 44-year-old Akhilendra Pratap Yadav from Prayagraj and 75-year-old Rampal from Maharajganj district, as confirmed by Baldev Police Station's SHO, Ranjana Sachan.
All thirteen victims succumbed to burn injuries, she added.
Fifteen of the injured were taken to the district hospital, while nine were admitted to a community health center and another nine to a private hospital in Baldev. Two individuals were sent to SN Medical College in Agra, Sachan reported.
Images from the scene depicted the charred remains of the buses involved in the fire.
Cranes were deployed to clear the wreckage from the roadway.
According to a statement from Mathura Police on social media, the pile-up at Milestone 127 involved seven buses and three smaller vehicles.
"Fortunately, none of the injured are in critical condition," the statement noted.
Passengers were provided transportation to their destinations using government vehicles, as the road remained blocked, necessitating diversions.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences on social media, stating, "The loss of life in the road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district is extremely tragic and heartbreaking. My deepest condolences are with the bereaved families."
He further instructed district officials to ensure that the injured receive appropriate medical care and prayed for peace for the deceased and a swift recovery for the injured.
In a post from his office, Adityanath announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
This incident follows another tragic event on Monday, where fog contributed to the deaths of three individuals, including two police officers, in separate multi-vehicle accidents in Haryana's Sonipat and Nuh districts.
In Nuh, a CISF Inspector was among the two fatalities on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, while in Sonipat, a female assistant sub-inspector lost her life when her vehicle collided with a truck making an illegal turn.
