Prichard Colon, a former professional boxer, has died at the age of 33, more than a decade after sustaining critical brain injuries during a match. His passing was reported by various news outlets, highlighting his struggles since the incident.

The Ill-Fated Match in 2015

In October 2015, Colon faced Terrel Williams in a super-welterweight fight that ended controversially. Williams was declared the winner by disqualification in the ninth round after Colon's team removed his gloves due to his complaints of dizziness. Colon alleged that Williams had delivered illegal blows to the back of his head, known as 'rabbit punches', which led to a penalty against Williams.

Collapse and Medical Emergency

Following the bout, Colon collapsed in his dressing room and was diagnosed with a subdural haematoma. He underwent emergency surgery on his brain and was placed in a coma for an extended period.

Struggles and Final Moments

After 221 days in a coma, Colon regained consciousness, but the neurological damage was severe, requiring him to have constant care for the rest of his life. His father, Richard Colon, announced his son's death on social media, expressing sorrow and stating that Prichard is now in a better place. Colon passed away at home in Florida surrounded by family.

A Career Full of Promise

Before the tragic incident, Colon had an impressive record, remaining undefeated in 16 professional fights, with 13 of those victories coming by knockout.
