Uttar Pradesh MLA Dr. Shyam Bihari Lal Passes Away
Dr. Shyam Bihari Lal, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and current legislator from the Faridpur constituency in Bareilly district, passed away on Friday. Initial reports indicate that he suffered a heart attack and breathed his last at Medicity Hospital located on Pilibhit Road. Notably, he had celebrated his 60th birthday just a day prior on January 1. According to available information, the heart attack occurred while he was at the Circuit House.
Earlier that day, he had attended a meeting with Cabinet Minister Dharmapal Singh. During the meeting, his health suddenly deteriorated, prompting immediate transport to the hospital, where despite all efforts, he could not be saved. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed profound sorrow over the legislator's passing. Modi shared on social media that he was deeply saddened by the demise of Dr. Shyam Bihari Lal, a dedicated leader of the BJP who served the public, and his loss is an irreparable blow to the party. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed his grief, stating, 'I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of respected MLA Dr. Shyam Bihari Lal from the Faridpur assembly constituency in Bareilly district. I offer my heartfelt tribute to him. My sympathies are with the grieving family. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed soul a place at His feet and to provide the bereaved family with the strength to bear this immense loss. Om Shanti!'
Dr. Shyam Bihari Lal, a resident of Shakti Nagar Colony on Pilibhit Road, had previously served as the head of the History Department at Rohilkhand University. He first contested elections in 2012 on a BJP ticket for the Faridpur (reserved) assembly seat but lost by a narrow margin. He ran again in 2017, defeating the Samajwadi Party candidate Dr. Siyaram Sagar, and secured victory. In the 2022 assembly elections, Shyam Bihari Lal won again from the Faridpur constituency, solidifying his status as a prominent political figure in the region.
