Tragic Murder of Village Head in Jharkhand Raises Security Concerns

Murder of Village Leader in Khunti District

In a shocking incident in Khunti district, Jharkhand, an unidentified assailant fatally shot a village head. This information was confirmed by the police on Thursday.

According to police reports, the attack occurred on Wednesday evening on the Namkum-Jamuadg road while the village head was returning home on a motorcycle with his wife.

The victim has been identified as Soma Munda, who had previously contested for the Khunti assembly seat in the upcoming 2024 elections. Munda held the title of 'Aadel Sanga Pradha Raja,' representing 22 villages.

Varun Rajak, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Khunti, stated that around 7 PM, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Munda. Local residents rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, examining all aspects related to the case. Kalicharan Munda, a Congress MP from Khunti, expressed deep sorrow over the village head's death and urged the police to apprehend the culprits swiftly.

He remarked, 'Such incidents raise questions about the law and order situation. The police must act quickly to arrest those involved and clarify the motive behind the murder.'

Champa Soren, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Chief Minister, took to Facebook to comment, 'This incident reflects the deteriorating law and order situation in Jharkhand. May God grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to endure this loss. You will always remain in our memories.'

Meanwhile, various tribal organizations staged protests on Thursday morning, blocking roads at multiple locations.
