Dharwad, July 16: A shocking incident has occurred in Karnataka's Dharwad, where a 45-year-old anesthesiologist was discovered murdered in his apartment. His eight-year-old son was also found with multiple stab wounds, according to police reports released on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Dr Kiran Honannavar, who worked at Chirayu Hospital. His wife, Dr Priyanka, an ophthalmologist, is currently in custody for questioning, while their son is receiving medical care at a private hospital.
Initial investigations suggest that no intruder entered the apartment, which is situated in a highly secure residential area. Authorities confirmed that only Dr Kiran, his wife, and their child were present during the incident.
The situation came to light when family members of Kiran attempted to reach him throughout the day. Police reported that Priyanka initially informed relatives that Kiran was resting and later claimed he had gone out. However, when he remained unreachable into the evening, concerned family members visited the apartment and made the grim discovery.
Upon arrival, police found Kiran lying in a pool of blood, while his son was located in another room with stab wounds but still alive. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities are still piecing together the events leading to this tragic incident and are reviewing all evidence available. Investigators noted that Priyanka is in a "state of shock" and has provided inconsistent statements during questioning. They are cross-referencing her account with information from family members to uncover a potential motive.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police plan to analyze CCTV footage from the residential complex to track the movements of individuals within and around the building.
A case has been filed at the Suburban Police Station, and officials anticipate that the post-mortem examination will shed light on the circumstances surrounding the murder.
Some relatives of Kiran have accused Priyanka of being involved in the murder; however, authorities have not confirmed her culpability and emphasize that the investigation is ongoing.
Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may have stemmed from a domestic dispute, but the exact motive remains to be determined.
