The incident occurred when a car lost control, crossed the median, and collided head-on with another vehicle on Monday.
The tragic event unfolded on the Thumbaipatti four-lane road overbridge as a car carrying five people was en route from Chennai to Tirunelveli along the National Highway.
According to law enforcement officials, the car initially struck a two-wheeler ahead of it while navigating the flyover. Following this impact, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer across the median into oncoming traffic.
In a matter of moments, the out-of-control car collided head-on with another vehicle traveling from the opposite direction.
The second vehicle was making its way from Madurai to Tiruchy at the time of the crash. The force of the collision was significant, resulting in extensive damage to the car heading towards Chennai.
Tragically, all five occupants of the Chennai-bound vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene before emergency responders could arrive.

Two individuals who suffered serious injuries were extracted from the wreckage and transported to Melur Government Hospital for medical attention.
Authorities confirmed that one of the injured was a passenger in the car from Chennai, while the other was in the second vehicle heading towards Tiruchy.
The bodies of the deceased were retrieved from the wreckage and sent to the government hospital for post-mortem examinations.
This tragic accident caused significant traffic disruptions on the busy four-lane road, as damaged vehicles and ongoing rescue efforts obstructed movement for a period.
Police managed traffic flow and cleared the area to restore normalcy. The Melur police have filed a case and are conducting an investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the accident.
