Fatal Incident in Jammu Region

On Saturday, mortar shelling and drone strikes attributed to Pakistan resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including a government official from Jammu and Kashmir and two security personnel, as reported by local news sources.

This tragic event occurred just hours before an agreement was reached between India and Pakistan to cease all military actions by 5 PM. However, India later accused Pakistan of breaching this agreement.

Earlier that day, Raj Kumar Thapa, the Additional District Development Commissioner of Rajouri, and two of his aides were injured when an artillery shell struck his residence. Thapa later succumbed to his injuries at the Government Medical Hospital.

Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his condolences, highlighting Thapa's dedication to public service and his recent involvement in district activities.

Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, originally from Himachal Pradesh, was also killed due to a Pakistani artillery shell explosion near his post in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch. Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu confirmed that arrangements for Kumar's last rites would be conducted with full state honors.

Additionally, Border Security Force Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imteyaz lost his life during cross-border firing in the RS Pura Sector, where he was leading his team at the border outpost.

Seven other individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a medical facility for treatment.

In Rajouri, two additional victims, a two-year-old girl named Aisha Noor and a 35-year-old man named Mohammed Shohib, were killed due to shelling near an industrial area, with three others injured.

A 55-year-old woman, Rashida Bi, was also a casualty of mortar shelling in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district. Furthermore, a 45-year-old man named Zakir Hussain was killed, and two others, including a girl, were injured in Kheri Keran village.

Recent tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following India's military operations, known as Operation Sindoor, targeting alleged terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to a deadly attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives on April 22.

In retaliation, the Pakistan Army has been shelling Indian villages along the Line of Control. The Indian armed forces reported that they successfully thwarted attempts by Pakistan to deploy drones and missiles targeting military sites in various towns on Wednesday night.
