Tragic LPG Tanker Fire Claims Four Lives in Uttar Pradesh

Devastating Incident at Kaushambi Toll Plaza

A catastrophic fire erupted from an LPG tanker near a toll plaza in Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals and injuring two others. Disturbing CCTV footage captured the moment when gas began to leak rapidly from the tanker at the Sirohi toll plaza, transforming into a fireball within seconds. The incident, which occurred on June 26, 2026, showed a swift release of white gas from the tanker, followed by a powerful explosion that engulfed the vehicle in flames, spreading fire to the surrounding toll booth area.

Destruction of Vehicles

This shocking event highlights the severe risks associated with LPG leaks near public infrastructure. The blaze consumed 16 motorcycles and two cars. The entire incident was recorded on CCTV, revealing that the LPG tanker, en route from Kanpur to Varanasi, reportedly lost control and collided with the divider, igniting a fierce fire.

Gas Leak and Explosion

According to police reports, the collision caused a gas leak, which spread rapidly before the tanker caught fire, engulfing the nearby area in flames. The CCTV footage shows the tanker crashing into the divider moments before the fire erupted. The driver, Dharmendra Dwivedi, who hailed from Mirzapur district, was trapped in the cabin and perished on the spot due to the flames. Additionally, five toll plaza employees suffered severe burns and were transported to Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj. Tragically, two more injured employees, Hiram Singh from Raebareli and Krishanpal Maurya from Lalitpur, also succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to four. Two other toll staff members are still receiving treatment at the hospital. Authorities have taken the bodies for post-mortem examinations, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Collision Details

The oil tanker, traveling at approximately 60-70 kilometers per hour, collided with the central divider, overturned, and crashed into the toll plaza. Immediately following the impact, LPG began leaking from the tanker, leading to a massive explosion that engulfed the vehicle and part of the toll plaza in flames. Thick black smoke and towering flames were visible from nearly two kilometers away. The fire quickly spread to the toll plaza yard and nearby restroom block, trapping several employees amidst the flames. Buses and cars queued on both sides of the toll plaza, with frightened passengers abandoning their vehicles as chaos and panic ensued throughout the area.
