Tragic Loss: Remembering IPS Officer Shefeen Ahamed K and His Legacy
A Heartfelt Farewell to a Dedicated Officer
Thiruvananthapuram/Bhubaneswar: Shashi Tharoor, a former Union Minister and current Congress Lok Sabha representative, expressed profound sadness on Monday following the passing of IPS officer Shefeen Ahamed K. The officer, who was 50 years old, succumbed to cancer after a lengthy battle.
Ahamed held the position of Inspector General of Police for the CID-Crime Branch in Odisha and passed away in a private hospital in Hyderabad, as reported by local news outlets.
Reflecting on his experiences with Ahamed, Tharoor shared that he first met the officer during his time in Kerala, where Ahamed served as the Rural Superintendent of Police in Thiruvananthapuram.
Tharoor fondly remembered Ahamed as a considerate and polite officer with a brilliant intellect, noting that he carried his skills with humility.
He praised Ahamed's sharp mind and professional capabilities, emphasizing how the officer approached his duties with grace despite his extensive experience.
Ahamed, who graduated from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET), hailed from Thiruvananthapuram. He joined the Indian Police Service in 2003 and built a remarkable career in Odisha, taking on several significant roles over more than twenty years.
Tharoor highlighted Ahamed's notable contributions to cybercrime investigations and Crime Branch operations. Even after returning to Odisha, he maintained strong ties with Thiruvananthapuram and kept in contact with those he had met there.
Tharoor expressed that Ahamed's untimely departure, especially in the city he cherished, made the loss even more poignant.
The Congress leader extended his condolences to Ahamed's family, colleagues in the Odisha Police, and all who held him in high regard.
The Odisha Police also expressed their sorrow over the loss of the esteemed officer. In a statement on X, they recognized Ahamed as a dedicated member of the 2003 IPS batch, known for his integrity and professionalism.
The police force acknowledged his significant contributions to law enforcement, particularly in cybercrime, and affirmed that his professional legacy would be honored.
