Mizoram Cricketer K. Lalremruata Dies on Field
New Delhi, Jan 9: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed its sorrow over the death of K. Lalremruata, a former Ranji player from Mizoram, who tragically collapsed during a local cricket match on Wednesday.
In a heartfelt message shared on X, the BCCI stated, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mizoram cricketer K. Lalremruata. He was a proud representative of Mizoram in both the Ranji Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the entire Mizoram cricket community."
The unfortunate incident occurred during a match in the Khaled Memorial 2nd Division Screening Tournament, where Lalremruata was playing for Venghnuai Raiders CC against Chawnpui ILMOV CC. He suddenly collapsed while the game was in progress. Despite receiving immediate medical attention and being rushed to a hospital, he could not be saved.
The Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM) reported that Lalremruata suffered a stroke during the match. They conveyed their condolences to his family, emphasizing that his passing is a significant loss for Mizoram cricket.
Throughout his career, Lalremruata represented Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy on two occasions and participated seven times in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also played for various local clubs and was a member of the Senior Tournament Committee.
In light of Lalremruata's death, Assam Cricket has canceled all matches scheduled for Thursday, announcing that they will be rescheduled. This includes games in the 2nd Division Screening Tournament at SCG, Sihhmui, the semi-finals of the 3rd Division Screening Tournament at Lawipu Playground, and the Samagra Inter-School Cricket Tournament for both boys and girls at the PUC Ground and MAP Ground in Mualpui.
Lalremruata, a wicketkeeper, made his First Class debut against Meghalaya in 2018 and played his final match in 2022 against Nagaland.
