Former MLA Kapchen Rajkumar's Untimely Death


Itanagar, July 9: Kapchen Rajkumar, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly from Arunachal Pradesh, tragically lost his life due to an elephant attack early Wednesday morning.


As per family sources, the incident occurred while he was walking from Namsang village to Deomali town in the Tirap district.


Aditya, the Superintendent of Police in Tirap, confirmed that Rajkumar was killed by an elephant during his journey from his village to Deomali.


At the age of 65, he is survived by his wife and multiple children.


Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his condolences over Rajkumar's passing, noting his service as an MLA for the Khonsa North Assembly Constituency from 1985 to 1990.


“I am profoundly saddened by the news of the untimely demise of Kapchen Rajkumar, who was a dedicated public servant. His contributions to the community will be cherished,” Khandu shared on social media.


He further remarked, “Rajkumar's unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people and his efforts for the progress of Tirap will be remembered. This is a significant loss for his family, friends, and all those he impacted through his work.”


Born on April 15, 1960, in Namsang village, Rajkumar was the son of Wangmei Rajkumar, a former acting chief of the village.


He completed his early education at Ramakrishna Mission School in Narottamnagar, Deomali, and later attended Government Higher Secondary School in Khonsa.


Additionally, he pursued a commercial pilot training course at Safdarjung Airport in New Delhi.


His final rites are scheduled to take place on Thursday in his hometown of Namsang.


Chief Minister Khandu has directed the processing of an ex-gratia grant to assist the grieving family.


Wangki Lowang, the State Environment and Forest Minister representing the Namsang constituency, also expressed his sorrow over Rajkumar's death.


“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of former MLA Kapchen Rajkumar, who died in a wild elephant attack while walking from Namsang to Deomali. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. May he rest in peace,” Lowang posted on social media.
